The Recruitment Test for Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades will be held at Air Force Station
Barrackpore, Near Palta Gate (West Bengal) from 10 March 2013 to 12 March 2013 as
per the Selection Programme given below.
2. SELECTION PROGRAMME. The Recruitment Test will be conducted from 7 AM
onwards as per the details given below. Candidates reporting up to 10 AM at the Rally
Venue will only be permitted to appear in the Recruitment Test.
Note: - The Recruitment Test is not for selection as Officers/Pilots/Navigators.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
3. DATE OF BIRTH BLOCK. Candidates should be born between 01 January 1992 to
31 March 1996 (both days inclusive).
4. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
(a) Candidate should have passed Intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent
examination with Mathematics, Physics and English with a minimum of
50% marks in aggregate.
OR
(b) Three year Diploma Course in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical or
Electronics or Automobile or Computer Science or Instrumentation
Technology or Information Technology) with at least 50% marks in overall
aggregate from a Government recognized Polytechnic Institute.
Note: - Exact aggregate percentage of marks up to first place of decimal for all
subjects as mentioned in the Marks Sheet of Intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent will
only be considered (For example, 49.9% should NOT be rounded off to 50%). 5. DOMICILE REQUIREMENT.
To be eligible to appear in the rally at Air Force Station Barrackpore
(West Bengal) the candidates are required to satisfy the following conditions:
(a) Should have passed the qualifying examination from any of the
RECOGNISED BOARDS/UNIVERSITY.
(b) The School / College /Polytechnic Institute from where candidates
have passed the qualifying examination should be within the geographical/
administrative limits of the State of West Bengal or Sikkim. If the name of
District is not mentioned with the name of Institution in the certificate /
marks sheet of qualifying examination, the candidates are to produce
‘Domicile Certificate’ issued by the following:
(i) State of West Bengal: DM or any Official authorised by
the State Government of West Bengal.
(ii) State of Sikkim: DM/SDM/Tehsildar or any Official
authorised by the State Government of Sikkim.
(c) Permanent Domicile of the State of West Bengal or Sikkim who have
passed the qualifying examination from anywhere in India. However, such
candidates have to produce Domicile Certificate prior to commencement of
examination from appropriate authority as given in sub-paragraph 5 (b) (i) &
(ii) above.
(d) Sons of Serving/Retired/Discharged/ Deceased Air Force Personnel,
irrespective of their domicile status may be permitted to appear in the rally
subject to submission of Son of Air Force Personnel Certificate as a proof in
the following categories: -
(i) Father/Mother is presently serving in any Air Force Unit located
in the specified Districts (as mentioned in Paragraph 2 above) of the
State of West Bengal or Sikkim
(ii) Ex-IAF personnel/families of deceased personnel who are
residing in the specified Districts (as mentioned in Paragraph 2 above)
of the State of West Bengal or Sikkim (on production of proof of
minimum stay of one year and Original and one photocopy of
discharge book).6. MEDICAL STANDARDS :-
(a) General Medical Standards for Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades are as follows:
(i) Height: Minimum height required is 152.5 cms.
(ii) Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
(iv) Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) not acceptable.
(v) Hearing: Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear
forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(vi) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and
minimum 14 dental points.
(vii) Health: Candidate should be free from medical or surgical
deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin
ailments. Candidate must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in
any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
(b) Visual Standards for Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades are as follows: -
(Candidates should bring latest prescription and spectacles for corrected
vision, if used. The prescription must bear the signature, stamp and
registration number of eye specialist.).
7. Candidates discharged from the Armed Forces on any ground or dismissed
from any Government Organisation for any reason earlier are NOT eligible to appear
in the rally.
8. WRITING MATERIALS AND DOCUMENTS REQUIRED. Candidates are to bring
the following:-
(a) HB Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Gum tube, Stapler and Black/Blue Ball Point
Pen for writing.
(b) Seven copies of recent front portrait (without headgear except for Sikh)
passport-size (5 cm X 4 cm) colour photograph taken on or after
10 December 2012. Photographs should be on good quality “photo paper”.
(c) Two unstamped self addressed 24x10 cm white envelopes of good quality.
(d) Original and three photocopies of each of all educational certificates and
mark sheets and domicile as well as NCC certificates (if applicable).
Under any circumstances the candidates will not be permitted to appear in the
Selection Test without Original Matriculation pass certificate, Intermediate
Mark sheet, Intermediate pass certificate and Domicile Certificate. However,
candidates with photocopies of Matriculation pass certificate, Intermediate
Mark sheet and Intermediate pass certificate can be permitted to appear in the
Selection Test only on production of a certificate from College/School
Principal certifying that Educational Certificates/Mark sheets are deposited
with College/School.
(e) Consent Form: (as per the format given below) Candidates are to bring the
“Consent Form’ to the Examination Venue and submit it before the Physical Fitness
Test. Candidates below 18 years of age are to get the Consent form filled and
signed by their parent/guardian. The candidates of 18 years of age and above can
sign the consent form themselves.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
9. TENURE & TRAINING. Enrolment is for an initial period of 20 years extendable up
to the age of 57 years. Initially candidates will be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training
(JBPT) for 12 weeks at Basic Training Institute, Belgaum (Karnataka). On successful
completion of JBPT candidates will be sent for trade training of specified durations.
Training is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to achieve the
required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to
be medically unfit. After successful completion of training, the airmen will be
deployed on ground based jobs as per their allotted trades.
10. PAY & ALLOWANCES. During training, a stipend of Rs. 8,550/-pm will be paid.
On completion of training, starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay
including Dearness Allowance (DA), for Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades will be
Rs. 21,414/-per month (approximately) [Pay in Pay Band – (Rs. 7,050/-) + Grade Pay –
(Rs. 2,000/-) + Military Service Pay (MSP) – (Rs. 2,000/-) + X Group Pay – (Rs. 1,400/-)
+ DA @ 72% - (Rs. 8,964/-)] which, in subsequent years, may rise up to Rs. 37,788/-per
month (approximately) [(Pay in Pay Band – (Rs. 13,770/-) + Grade Pay – (Rs. 4,800/-) + Military Service Pay (MSP) – (Rs. 2,000/-) + X Group Pay – (Rs. 1,400/-) + DA @ 72% -
(Rs. 15,818/-)] as per sixth pay commission depending upon the rank attained. Other
allowances such as Transport allowance, Composite personal maintenance allowance
(CPMA), Leave Ration allowance (LRA), Family planning allowance, HRA etc. are also
admissible to airmen.
11. PERQUISITES. Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical facilities,
Accommodation, CSD Canteen facilities, Leave (60 days Annual and 30 days Casual
in a Calendar year as a privilege), Education concession to children, Recreational
facilities, Free transport for school going children and Leave Travel Concession
(LTC) are also provided as per the existing rules. Notwithstanding the above, Group
Insurance Cover of Rs. 25, 00,000/- at a premium of Rs. 1,730/- per month is covered
for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme is also extended. Other facilities by
Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) are also extended to the family of
airmen.
12. POST-RETIREMENT BENEFITS. Pension, Medical Insurance Cover, Gratuity
and Canteen facilities comprise some of the post-retirement benefits. Specialized
Pre-release Courses are also arranged to enable airmen to take up post-retirement
careers. In addition, airmen also get relaxation in age and reservation in Government
services as Ex-servicemen.
13. PROMOTION. Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer
(MWO). Opportunities to become a Commissioned Officer also exist for those airmen who
qualify the prescribed examinations, later during their service career.
14. JOB SPECIFICATION Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades involve jobs as given below:
(a) Automobile Fitter. In this trade you are responsible for maintenance and
repair of all type of light and heavy duty mechanical vehicles, cranes and loading
equipment etc.
(b) Electronics Fitter. As an Electronics Fitter you operate and maintain Radar,
Voice and Data transmission and reception equipment mounted on latest airborne
weapon delivery systems and ground based air defense systems. You will get
trained in Digital Electronics, measuring instruments, radar technology, latest
electronics devices and related trade fundamentals.
(c) Electrical Fitter. You will maintain power supply system of latest types of
aircraft, airborne missiles and associated ground systems. You will also maintain
photo equipment mounted on air borne weapon systems and operate ground based
photo systems. You will get trained in electrical trade, operation and maintenance of
digital devices, electronic devices etc.
(d) Mechanical System Fitter. You will repair and maintain mechanical,
hydraulic and pneumatic systems of airborne missiles, engines, automobiles and
aircraft fuelling equipment. Complete aircraft ground support equipment will also be
repaired and maintained by you. You will be trained in handling and preparation of
bombs and explosives and in electrical system, workshop and mechanical trades as
well as automobile mechanics.
(e) Structures Fitter. As Structures Fitter you are responsible for the
maintenance and servicing of airframes and their accessories, components and
controls of aircraft. Regular checks for the entire hydraulic and pneumatic system to
ensure proper functioning against leaks are also part of your duties. You will also be
assigned the responsibility of marshaling, parking, picketing and ground handling of
aircraft.
(f) Propulsion Fitter. In this trade you will repair, maintain and prepare for use
the propulsion system of aircraft and other airborne weapon delivery system.
(g) Workshop Fitter (Smith). You will undertake major structural repairs of all
aircraft at central repair facilities. You will also be trained in workshop trade for
material treatment, welding, heat treatment, smithy and basic machine tools etc.
(h) Workshop Fitter (Mechanical). You will undertake repair and maintenance
work of mechanical nature. You will be trained in workshop trade and practices.
(j) Weapon Fitter. In this trade, you will prepare, maintain and service
armaments, ammunition and safety equipment of aircraft, missiles and other weapon
delivery systems. You will also operate and maintain small arms and bomb
destruction equipment. You will be trained to handle bombs, explosives, arms and
their installation on weapon delivery platforms.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
15. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY. Original Certificates, Mark Sheets and other
required documents {NCC ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate, Son of Air Force personnel certificate
(SOAFP), Domicile certificate etc.) will be scrutinized and verified at the examination venue
prior to commencement of Written Test to ascertain the prima-facie eligibility.
Detailed verification will be carried out in respect of candidates who pass Written Test later.
SEQUENCE OF EXAMINATION
16. WRITTEN TEST. Written test will be objective type and question paper will be
bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English Paper. Duration of the Written Test will be
60 minutes. Written test will be conducted in English, Physics & Mathematics as per
CBSE syllabus of AISSCE.
CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY IN EACH PAPER SEPARATELY. Results of the
written test will be declared on the same day.
17. PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (PFT). All candidates who pass the written test are to
undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a
1.6 Km run to be completed within 8 minutes. Candidates completing the PFT in less
than 7 minutes 30 seconds will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale.
Candidates are advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts.
18. INTERVIEW. Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be
interviewed. Working knowledge of English is a prerequisite.
19. TRADE ALLOCATION TEST (TAT). Candidates of Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades
who qualify in interview are to undergo Trade Allocation Test for bifurcation into Mechanical
and Electronics stream. Specific trade allotment within these streams will be carried out at
Basic Training Institute (BTI), Air Force (Belgaum).
20. MEDICAL EXAMINATION. Medical examination will be conducted as per IAF
medical standards for recruitment as airmen by medical officers of the Armed Forces.
Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board (AMB)
against their Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/RBI/SBI through
Military Receivable Order (MRO). The application for AMB along with original copy of
MRO, Xerox copy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rs. 25/- affixed on a
self-addressed envelope are to be submitted to 4 Airmen Selection Centre, Air Force
Station Barrackpore (West Bengal), for processing within seven working days from the
date of issue of Medical Certificate.
NOTE: - Candidates are advised to get tartar & stains removed from their teeth
before appearing for the written test. Ears should be free of wax. Candidates
should be prepared to stay for the test for four to five days under their own
arrangement. No TA/DA will be admissible.
21. PUBLISHING OF AISL The All India Select List (AISL) will be displayed at
4 Airmen Selection Centre, Air Force Station Barrackpore, Near Palta Gate (West
Bengal) on 30 APRIL 2013. A copy of the Display List will be sent to District Magistrate of 24 Parganas (North), West Bengal (through Airmen Selection Centre) and also available
at Indian Air Force website www.indianairforce.nic.in. The inclusion of names of the
candidates in the AISL depends upon the performance of the candidates in the Selection
Test.

assigned the responsibility of marshaling, parking, picketing and ground handling of
aircraft.
(f) Propulsion Fitter. In this trade you will repair, maintain and prepare for use
the propulsion system of aircraft and other airborne weapon delivery system.
(g) Workshop Fitter (Smith). You will undertake major structural repairs of all
aircraft at central repair facilities. You will also be trained in workshop trade for
material treatment, welding, heat treatment, smithy and basic machine tools etc.
(h) Workshop Fitter (Mechanical). You will undertake repair and maintenance
work of mechanical nature. You will be trained in workshop trade and practices.
(j) Weapon Fitter. In this trade, you will prepare, maintain and service
armaments, ammunition and safety equipment of aircraft, missiles and other weapon
delivery systems. You will also operate and maintain small arms and bomb
destruction equipment. You will be trained to handle bombs, explosives, arms and
their installation on weapon delivery platforms.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
15. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY. Original Certificates, Mark Sheets and other
required documents {NCC ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate, Son of Air Force personnel certificate
(SOAFP), Domicile certificate etc.) will be scrutinized and verified at the examination venue
prior to commencement of Written Test to ascertain the prima-facie eligibility.
Detailed verification will be carried out in respect of candidates who pass Written Test later.
SEQUENCE OF EXAMINATION
16. WRITTEN TEST. Written test will be objective type and question paper will be
bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English Paper. Duration of the Written Test will be
60 minutes. Written test will be conducted in English, Physics & Mathematics as per
CBSE syllabus of AISSCE.
CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY IN EACH PAPER SEPARATELY. Results of the
written test will be declared on the same day.
17. PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (PFT). All candidates who pass the written test are to
undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a
1.6 Km run to be completed within 8 minutes. Candidates completing the PFT in less
than 7 minutes 30 seconds will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale.
Candidates are advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts.
18. INTERVIEW. Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be
interviewed. Working knowledge of English is a prerequisite.
19. TRADE ALLOCATION TEST (TAT). Candidates of Group ‘X’ (Technical) trades
who qualify in interview are to undergo Trade Allocation Test for bifurcation into Mechanical
and Electronics stream. Specific trade allotment within these streams will be carried out at
Basic Training Institute (BTI), Air Force (Belgaum).
20. MEDICAL EXAMINATION. Medical examination will be conducted as per IAF
medical standards for recruitment as airmen by medical officers of the Armed Forces.
Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board (AMB)
against their Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/RBI/SBI through
Military Receivable Order (MRO). The application for AMB along with original copy of
MRO, Xerox copy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rs. 25/- affixed on a
self-addressed envelope are to be submitted to 4 Airmen Selection Centre, Air Force
Station Barrackpore (West Bengal), for processing within seven working days from the
date of issue of Medical Certificate.
NOTE: - Candidates are advised to get tartar & stains removed from their teeth
before appearing for the written test. Ears should be free of wax. Candidates
should be prepared to stay for the test for four to five days under their own
arrangement. No TA/DA will be admissible.
21. PUBLISHING OF AISL The All India Select List (AISL) will be displayed at
4 Airmen Selection Centre, Air Force Station Barrackpore, Near Palta Gate (West
Bengal) on 30 APRIL 2013. A copy of the Display List will be sent to District Magistrate of 24 Parganas (North), West Bengal (through Airmen Selection Centre) and also available
at Indian Air Force website www.indianairforce.nic.in. The inclusion of names of the
candidates in the AISL depends upon the performance of the candidates in the Selection
Test.
